About BOTOX® and Juvederm™
1. What is BOTOX® and how long will it last?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily smooth moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people from 18 to 65 years of age. It is the only treatment of its type approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The effects last for 4 months. The results are usually evident about seven days after treatment although they can take up to 2 weeks. If you have a repeat treatment, the results generally last longer than the first time. The more treatments you have, the longer the effects of subsequent injections.
2. Where do you put BOTOX®?
The frown lines between the eyebrows are caused by the action of muscles called "the corrugators". These are located just under the inner aspect of the eyebrows and can be felt thickening in this area when you frown.
Injecting BOTOX® directly into this muscle relaxes it, stopping your ability to bring your eyebrows together in a frown. Once the muscle is relaxed it cannot contract and the frown lines fade away. BOTOX® can be injected into the frontalis muscle of the forehead to reduce and smooth out forehead lines.
Relaxation of the muscles around the eyebrows can effect a nonsurgical brow lift. BOTOX® can be used around the mouth to lessen the depth of upper lip smile lines, and the lines and downward tilt of corners of the mouth. The chin can be injected to reduce dimpling.
3. What is Juvederm™ and how long will it last?Juvederm™ products are cosmetic dermal fillers that replace lost volume and restore youthful contours to the skin to smooth away moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
Juvederm™ is made of hyaluronic acid, the same material that gives babies their plumpness. In the human body, natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Juvederm™ has been modified slightly to last longer than the body's hyaluronic acid. Juvederm™ contains no animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions.
Juvederm™ is "water loving," because of the hydrophilic nature of these hyaluronic acid molecules and their three dimensional structure which allows them to bind many times their weight in water. As hyaluronic acid begins to degrade, each molecule binds to more water, which helps to maintain its volume for about six months.
4. Can Juvederm™ be used anywhere on the face?Juvederm™ has been used in more than one million treatments in over 60 countries to correct a variety of wrinkles and to enhance the appearance and fullness of lips. In the U.S., it is currently indicated for mid to deep dermal implantation for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as smile lines, furrows, and marionette lines, and can refill and contour lips and rejuvenate aged hands.
5. How is Juvederm™ different from BOTOX®?Juvederm™ are a natural cosmetic product that fills in wrinkles, furrows, and enhances lips. In contrast, BOTOX® is a drug that relaxes underlying muscles that produce frown lines, forehead wrinkles, crow"s feet, lip lines, chin dimpling, and neck banding. Many patients have been pleased after receiving treatment with BOTH products.
6. Can I get both BOTOX® and Juvederm™ at the same time?
YES
7. How much will BOTOX® cost? Juvederm™?
On average one BOTOX® session can cost about $12.00 per unit. The amount needed will depend on what you and the doctor feel is appropriate to achieve the look you want.
On average Juvederm™ cost $525 per syringe. Patients typically require at least one syringe.
8. How long will my first appointment last , including a consultation?
BOTOX®: 15-30 min
Juvederm™: 30-45 min
BOTOX® & Juvederm™: 30-45 min
Consultation: 15 min
9. What do I need to do before my appointment?
Prior to your appointment, limit aspirin intake for one week to minimize any brusing.
10. Will I need a numbing agent?
Maybe. If necessary, the doctor will apply it at the time of your appointment. This doesn’t need to be on for very long so this will not effect the length of your appointment time.
